Sustainable Development Pathway courses

Notes:
Please choose all 40 credits from the Subject Area on which you wish to focus your studies. This will serve as your MAIN SUBJECT PATHWAY. Take your choices from one of these Subject Areas within SPS; International Relations; or Politics; or Social Anthropology; or Sociology.
Otherwise, if you wish to follow the Geography pathway, see box below.

Compulsory courses in each of the pathways are the same as those for the single honours degree in that subject, for instance Sustainable Development (Politics pathway)are the same as 1st year single honours Politics - please consult your PT, or the appropriate single honours DPT, for advice. You should also sign up for the Fundamentals courses for your pathway (non credit bearing courses that run in each semester). There are no Fundamentals courses on the Geography pathway in first year.

Notes:Please choose your 40 credits from the MAIN SUBJECT PATHWAY that you focused your studies on during year 1, again taking your choices from one of these Subject Areas: International Relations; Politics; Social Anthropology; Sociology. If following the POLITICS pathway or INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS pathway, you can chose between PLIT08008 and PLIT08009 in second semester, although you can take both if you wish to. Year 3 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
Entry to third year normally requires successful completion of the first two years of the curriculum. Students must also normally achieve 50% or more in their first attempt in their second year sustainable development courses. In addition, students pursuing a main subject area within the School of Social and Political Science must also normally achieve marks of 50% or more at the first attempt in all required second year courses for their main subject.
For students on the POLITICS pathway and INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS pathway, the following course is compulsory: Approaches to Politics and International Relations (PLIT10060). For students on the SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY pathway, the following non-credit bearing course is compulsory: Imagining Anthropological Research (SCAN10037)
Students on a Junior Year Abroad who do not take a field based course as part of their studies may take Cases in Sustainable Development on their return to Edinburgh in their senior honours year.

Notes:
Students MUST take either: the Geography Dissertation in Sustainable Development (GEGR10111) OR the Dissertation in Sustainable Development, SPS (SSPS10015). They MUST NOT choose to write a dissertation in both Subjects.
Students who were on a Junior Year Abroad and who did not take a field based course as part of their studies may take Cases in Sustainable Development on their return to Edinburgh in their senior honours year.

There are no compulsory courses in this year of this programme.
