SummaryThis course will consolidate your critical thinking, methods and methodologies.

Course description

Through self-initiation and a motivated approach to your work supported by range of critiques and tutorials you will generate a critically informed and cohesive body of work. You will establish proficient approach to the production and context of your work in in relation to current practice.

Aims
1.To propose and produce a personal direction for your work that determines a high level of ambition and understanding.
2.To present a selected body of work that communicates critical analysis, personal vision and awareness within the context of current practice.


Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Presentation: Methods & Context 4 (ARTX10037) AND ( Visual Culture Research Project (20 credit) (ARTX10036) AND Visual Research 4 (40 credit) (ARTX10039)) OR ( Visual Culture Research Project (40 credit) (ARTX10040) AND Visual Research 4 (20 credit) (ARTX10035))
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to students on a Degree Programme in the School of Art.
Additional Costs Students are expected to pay for Art Materials and Equipment. Specific materials and equipment costs will vary depending on students individual choice of method of production.

Additional Information (Assessment) Assessment is formative at end of Semester 1 and summative at end of Semester 2.

1. A memory stick with documented work made since the last summative assessment. This should include no more than 20 images, video not exceeding 10 min, and/or sound not exceeding 10 min.
2. A presented body of work, for example: degree show, project space.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Concepts: Identify the scope and detailed theories, concepts and principals that define of a specialized art practice.
  2. Methods: Utilize appropriate methods, processes and materials essential to the realization of ideas.
  3. Outcomes: Realize sophisticated and autonomous solutions that clearly demonstrate practical and contextual knowledge and understanding of your chosen discipline.
