Summary | A course for beginners with no previous knowledge of German, designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written German. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of German.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
There is an identical course (Foundation German Language 1 - ELCG07009) which runs in the first semester.
On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Foundation German Language 2 (ELCG07008 or ELCG07010), which follows on from Foundation German Language 1. |

Learning Outcomes
Students will develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. They will acquire knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 500 high-frequency words and phrases.

Students joining the course after the first class meeting with timetable restrictions on which group they can join must contact the course secretary before enrolling to confirm availability in the required group.
