| Summary | This course will serve as a basic primer in key Interior Design principles, methods and techniques. The course provides fundamental technical and perceptual knowledge and understanding that is vital for sustained practice. |
| Course description |
Each student selects a painting from a diverse list to respond to. The paintings, all with unique spatial qualities, provide a resource for students to develop skills in representation of 2D and 3D space, conceptual design thinking and spatial design development.
After researching the painting, students develop their physical model-making skills through the representation of the 2D painting as a 3D model.
Next, working within a given context (a selected designer, space, place or narrative), students develop a new purpose and atmospheric experience for their 3D space(s) ¿beyond the frame¿ in model, drawing and video formats.
Throughout the course, students learn basic sketching and orthographic drawing techniques and are expected to use these methods of representation in their submitted drawings.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Research selected design themes through personal investigation and explore their design potential in a new context.
- Apply a range of interior design drawing methods and model-making techniques in the development of a two - dimensional source into three - dimensional spatial design proposals.
- Communicate the design journey from conception to completion through drawings and models using storyboarding and creative digital techniques.
