Course description |
This course develops the theme of personal and interpersonal skills, communication skills and clinical skills, with an emphasis on developing a strong foundation in diagnostic and basic clinical techniques in preparation for EMS, and the introduction of more clinical contexts and preparation for working in a clinical environment. Understanding of veterinary business is developed through the perspective of the patient and the client.

1. Attendance
You are expected to attend ALL of the professional and clinical skills practical/tutorial classes listed on this course. Attendance of less than 100% of these classes will result in a Fail for the course.
(Recorded through attendance moinitoring for every class)
2. Professional Mentor (PM) Annual Review and Goal Planning Meeting Report (Semester 1) - pass/fail formative assessment - you must submit by the deadline.
3. Completion of Drug Calculations by the deadline
4. PCS3 Communications reflection - pass/fail - you must submit by the deadline
5. Portfolio Submission - pass/fail - you must submit by the deadline.
Resit Information
If you fail this pass/fail course then you will be required to complete a resit activity to ensure all relevant learning outcomes have been assessed. The task required will include the resit activity plus any elements of the portfolio which were not submitted on first attempt. Instructions will be sent out by the Exam Board Chair once all marks are ratified.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate personal professional standards required in clinical EMS
- Demonstrate effective and structured communication in the clinical context
- Perform common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the clinical skills lab environment and practice clinical skills relevant to physical examination, diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies in common veterinary species
- Demonstrate knowledge of the organisation, management, financial operation and professional responsibilities related to a veterinary business
- Demonstrate the personal attributes and behaviours required of a professional (including the online identity and ability to enter text into online systems for the purposes of assessment, learning and professional activities) and apply effective time and stress management, independent learning, study skills and reflective practices
