SummaryA one-off 10-credit field course for 4th-year Environmental Geoscience (EG) students who were unable to complete the Jamaica field trip in 3rd year due to Covid-19 (EASC09036).

Please note that the destination will be dependent on what is possible/ permissible in terms of international travel in Spring 2022 and so this may be subject to change depending on what Covid-19 allows.

NOTE: Students would join 3rd-year EG students in Jamaica in April 2022. The 14-day trip will be extended by 2 days in order to accommodate the larger student numbers, but there will be a net saving of ~20% relative to running two separate trips.
Course description 2-week Jamaica fieldtrip at Easter break 2022 (following pre-trip software training and independent student research towards 3 literature reviews completed in AY 20/21). Field trip involves multiple field- and laboratory exercises with linked marine and terrestrial focus.

Assessment: 4 field reports, completed during the trip.

Additional Information (Assessment) Assessment is based on 4 reports completed in the field, during the trip; 1. Reef survey and reef process experiments (25%); 2. Hydrographic studies (30%); 3. Marine and freshwater geochemistry studies (35%); 4. Synopsis (10%). The reports permit assessment of students¿ achievements in relation to all five learning outcomes.
Feedback Students will receive immediate feedback on oral progress reports presented in the field, and on final written reports after the trip.
