Summary	It is recognised that analgesics, whilst providing relief of cancer pain, may have limitations in the context of long-term survival and increasing disease complexity. In order to address these weaknesses, it is suggested that a more comprehensive model of cancer pain management is needed that is mechanism-based and multimodal, which uses combination therapies which are tailored to the needs of an individual, with the aim of optimising pain relief while minimising adverse effects. This course addresses these concerns and examines recent clinical advancements in management of patients with cancer pain including psychological factors such as grief, depression and anxiety

Additional Information (Assessment)	This course is assessed by participation in short case study scenarios. This will further develop the studentżs abilities in the management of cancer pain patients. It will provide participants with experience marrying theoretical and clinical case studies taken from recent practice. Key principles that will underpin assessment activities are evidence-based practice and the application of theory to clinical practice. The principles of constructive alignment will underpin all assessments and will ensure the assessment tasks are aligned with the specific course objectives, the content of the course and the teaching methods employed.
