Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course it is intended that a student will be able to:
1)demonstrate familiarity with the three-dimensional linear acoustic wave equation, understanding and explaining the assumptions and approximations made in its derivation
2)define specific acoustic impedance, and derive the specific acoustic impedance for plane and spherical sound waves
3) Have familiarity with the wave equation for string vibration, and traveling wave decompositions
4) Have familiarity with the equation of motion of a vibrating bar
5) Have familiarity with the equation of motion of a vibrating membrane
6) Be capable of deriving expressions for modal shapes and frequencies for simple systems
7) Be able to calculate expressions for phase and group velocity for a given system
