SummaryAn introduction to the creative practice of musical composition including: form, rhythm, harmony, instrumentation and cultural context. The student's own creative work will be developed in individual tutorials. Students are encouraged to make a rigorous exploration of the horizons of their musical experience and interest.
Course description The study and practice of creative music composition.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Composition 2 (MUSI08030) OR Music 2C: Intermediate Training in Compositional Techniques (MUSI08050)

Pre-requisitesVisiting students should have at least three Music courses at grade B or above in Music Theory (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses. All Visiting students should contact the Course Organiser before enrolling on the course.

Additional Information (Assessment) Portfolio submission. Two original and contrasting compositions, to be submitted by end of Semester - worth 80%.

Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the essentials of creative compositional practice and their context.
- They will demonstrate the development of individual creative skills and musical issues arising from them.
- They will demonstrate core skills of music notation and the preparation of scores and performance materials.
