Summary | The course has two components: Keyboard Skills and instrumental/vocal performance. It aims to provide an integrated introductory course in general musicianship, with particular emphasis on developing basic keyboard skills, as well as encouraging students' performance on their individual instruments or voice.
The aim of the seminars is to foster and develop students' experience of performance and therefore the confidence with which they approach performance. They complement the instrumental/vocal studies that students are expected to pursue with private teachers. They encourage performance within the School in a more social and public setting, and they consider issues that are not always easily covered in individual lessons.
Students' work in Keyboard Skills might well be related to such performances: e.g. accompanying a singer/instrumentalist from a simple figured bass, accompanying a vocal ensemble (perhaps at sight) from a vocal score and so on.
The tutorials introduce students to a variety of keyboard skills, all of which have useful applications in practical music-making. |
