Summary | This diploma level module will address the principles of research methodology in Medical Education, sufficient to enable the student to prepare and complete the thesis required for the Masters award.
More specifically the following areas will be considered:
- The nature and purpose of research
- Theoretical frameworks of research practice
- An exploration of the process of research with established research practitioners
- Designing a research question
- Locating the literature, reading and critical appraisal (including e-data bases)
- Methodology. Issues of validity and reliability of evidence. Gathering evidence by qualitative and/or quantitative techniques. Analysis and presenting results.
- Reflections and conclusions.
- Writing the thesis.
- Writing for publication.
Examples will be drawn from the literature to illustrate the principles.
