| Summary | THIS IS A FOR-CREDIT ONLY COURSE OFFERED BY THE OFFICE OF LIFELONG LEARNING (OLL); ONLY STUDENTS REGISTERED WITH OLL SHOULD BE ENROLLED
This course will enable students to examine the anatomical structure of the animal and will include the structure and motion of animal skeletons and general muscle patterns. This research and groundwork will inform the development of a range of studies and artwork. Students will explore the expressive qualities of the drawing materials and develop a more considered approach to rendering their personal interpretation in the resolved work. Students will refer to the series of photographs of ¿Animal Locomotion¿ by Eadward Muybridge, and also the work of the American film maker Michael Langan whose films explore the boundaries of live action and animation. As part of the course students will be asked to make works in response to the subject of Edinburgh Zoo ¿ viewed as a public space for the spectators, and a private space for the inhabitant animal. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:

demonstrate a rigorous work ethic in the sketchbook that informs an analytical interpretation of animal anatomy and also underpins the expressive and thought provoking qualities - PRACTICE
be effective in the uses of a range drawing, painting and mixed media techniques both within a sketchbook and in development studies in response to the study of animals.
- PRESENT
present a range of directed lines of enquiry and insightful reflection in the selection and editing of visual ideas which reveal a position on the study of animals.
