Landscape as inspiration and source material is the focus for this course, enabling students to make mixed media studies and resolved paintings using the local rural environment and from personal drawn and photographic references. Exploiting the potential uses of inks, graphite, collage, acrylics and oils, students will explore a range of mark making techniques to develop their own expressive vocabulary to reveal a sense of place, mood and characteristics of rural environments using a range of compositional devices and techniques. |

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, through attending classes and engaging in directed and independent study, students should be able to:
RESEARCH
- achieve a confident and practiced approach to rural location drawing and research techniques
PRACTICE
- produce a number of studies and resolved paintings from sketches from landscape sources
PRESENT
- develop a personal visual language by experimenting with composition, colour and scale.
