Summary	This course is part of the online e-learning programme in Health and Social Care. This Critical Reading in Health and Social Care 10 credit course allows students the opportunity to explore a topic in depth with associated research and literature. The topic will be relevant to their workplace and professional development in their own country and will cover an area not substantially included in their core and option courses within the Programme. The topic will be selected in agreement with an allocated tutor who will supervise the student's progress. The two 10 credit topics should be taken in the same year, but need not be in the same semester. If appropriate, one 10 credit course may be taken from elsewhere in the School, College or University if only Critical Reading in Health and Social Care 1 is selected, with prior agreement of the Programme Director. Each topic chosen as part of Critical Reading in Health and Social Care 1 is negotiated individually between the student and their supervisor/course organiser. Topics will be related to an aspect of health and social care. Supervisors will help in the selection of a topic. This may include (but is not restricted to): service user and carer inclusion ethics and boundaries knowledge exchange public health issues of capacity and consent narratives and life experience counselling supervision cognitive behavioural therapy risk supporting change Students may choose a topic from this course as their dissertation topic with the agreement of the Programme Director. This may help the student by enabling them to continue researching an area of interest and relevance within their organisation and after having begun work on the literature review.
