Summary | This course is designed to lead on from Persian 1 and provides a further development of linguistic skills in the modern language. Grammatical structures and oral skills are further developed. Selected texts in Modern Persian are studied and are supplemented by an introduction to the modern literature and culture of Iran. The course is intended not only to lay the foundation of Honours work, but also to be a self-contained unit. Knowledge of basic grammar structures will be revised and extended. Students will begin to acquire the vocabulary of educated reading and conversation. The class follows a combination of the exercises and photocopied extracts from different books. Translation exercises are regularly given to students. The students will extend their knowledge Persian grammar. It is aimed to introduce Persian language, culture and civilization to the student more deeply.

Learning Outcomes
The student is expected to consolidate the skills learned in Persian 1, further developing linguistic skills in the modern language, studying grammatical structures and further developing oral skills. Students will acquire a good grasp of intermediate Persian grammar. They will be able to read and understand intermediate texts in Persian, they will be able to write and carry on intermediate level conversation in Persian. They will be able to identify, describe and manipulate a range of linguistic forms and structures in reading, writing, and conversation at intermediate level, and to assimilate basic information about another culture. They will obtain a deeper understanding of Persian civilization and its importance in the broader context of Islamic civilization and culture.
