Summary	This course examines the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), a conflict that appeared to contemporaries to be the battleground between the three great ideologies of the twentieth century: democracy, communism and fascism. It will consider the origins of the war before studying the main military, political, diplomatic, socio-economic and cultural developments of the conflict before assessing the consequences of General Franco's unconditional victory in April 1939. Undergraduates will have access to the wide range of published and unpublished primary source materials.

Additional Information (Assessment)	Each student writes two essay of 3,000 words. Students will also be required to give seminar papers and documents presentations. The degree exam will consist of two two-hour papers. Learning Outcomes
