Summary | An attempt, through sampling prose and poetry of the nineteenth century, to explore what public (and sometimes private) attitudes were prevalent, and in particular to show that while Victoria's reign was long there were many varieties and developments of belief and practice during the period. Convention is mirrored and frequently challenged in satirical writing which forms a large part of the course. |
