* To identify the sources of officially published mortality data and understand how these are compiled.
* To know and understand the main causes of natural and non-natural death and the criteria used to ascertain the manner of death.
* To identify trends and make comparisons between different medico-legal jurisdictions and suggest reasons and explanations for any observed differences.
