Summary | This course will examine texts by twentieth century Austrian writers from Arthur Schnitzler to Thomas Bernhard. The texts will deal with issues of race, identity, gender and politics,with a particular focus on the period 1918-1938.

Learning Outcomes
Through the close study of drama and narrative fiction students will gain insight into the way literature reflects social and political developments in Austria from the collapse of the Habsburg Empire to the Waldheim scandal of the 1980s.
