Summary | The language component of German 2 consists of one grammar lecture per week in semester 1, one seminar per week in both semesters (translation and grammar), and one tutorial per week in both semesters (practical and text production). The literary/cultural component for German 2 consists of selected texts from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries studied in one two-hour seminar per week. |

Additional Information (Assessment) |
1) Practical/Text Production expressed as percentage - 25% for each of the two Written Assignments, 25% for oral contribution in class/written assignments and 25% for the oral examination.
2) Grammar/Translation class: The mark for this part of the course will be gained from the Class Exam (50%) and the degree exam (50%), expressed as a percentage.
3) The final mark for German 2 will be reached by adding the marks from the language component (200) to the marks awarded to the two literature classwork essays and the two examination essays (200) and dividing by 4. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Students will be able to apply more aspects of their language skills in reading, writing and speaking German in more complex ways than in German 1A or 1B in preparation for their year abroad.
- Students will have more knowledge about specific areas of German literature and film.
- Students will be able to analyse critically texts of a variety of genres and to use a variety of methodologies to do so.
- Students will be able to convey complex information in written and oral form.
- Students will be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a group.
