Summary | To introduce students to important topics in the culture of Europe in the twelfth to fifteenth centuries, using literary texts read in English translation. The course is primarily intended for second-level students of Modern European Languages but is also open to other students, numbers permitting. There are no formal entry requirements.
In addition to a general historical introduction to the medieval ages, excerpts from the following texts will be studied:
Poem of the Cid and The Book of Good Love (Hispanic Studies)
German Medieval Love Poetry (German)
Marie de France and The Song of Roland (French)
Saga of Gisli and Voluspa (Scandinavian) |
