SummaryFourth Year placement is an 11 week placement which provides the final year BEd (Physical Education) student teacher with the opportunity to develop their professional practice within a range of core and certificate physical education contexts while providing an introduction to the challenges of of being part of the wider school and learning community within their induction year.
Course description Placement 4 is designed to build on and consolidate professional practice while preparing the student for the challenges of the induction year in terms of grasping the concepts of the extended professional , Themes covered during this 11 week placement (Semester 2 January-April) are related to the 1) planning, implementing and evaluating lessons in Physical Education in core PE in S1 ¿ S6 3) teaching of certificate P.E classes S3-6 4) developing knowledge of development in relation to a Curriculum for Excellence, Core and Certificate Physical Education 4) consideration of whole school policies and the wider learning community.

Feedback Students during the course of placement receive lesson -by lesson feedback from the teachers working most closely with them as well as meeting with their key mentor weekly (when feasible). During these meeting progress is discussed and targets agreed with the student. In addition, the tutor makes one visit to observe a lesson/s and discuss progress with both the student and their mentor/teachers.
An interim report is completed and shared with the student and university and subsequently frames the final part of the placement experience. if any concerns arise after this further tutor visits are arranged and possible moderations. The final report is compiled by the key mentor on the basis of their ongoing observations and discussions with colleagues and tutor.

  1. Developed a satisfactory level of competence in planning, delivering and evlauating physical education lessons (S1-6)s
  2. Developed a good understanding of teaching within the context of certificate P.E
  3. Developed a good level of awareness of whole school policies and the nature of the wider leanring community
  4. Acheived a satisfacory level of competence required for entry into the induciton year in relation to the the GTC SPR: Professional Values & Personal Commitment; Professional Knowledge & Understanding; and Professional Skills & Abilities
