Summary | The course intends to provide students with an introduction to the principal issues in environmental and natural resource economics. The course will cover the relevant economic theory and its application to some of the perceived problems associated with the use of natural and environmental resources. We will pay considerable attention to policy issues and to the appraisal of alternative policy recommendations. Organising themes throughout the class are sustainability and efficiency.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of the major literature in the area and ability to apply the relevant tools of economic analysis (which in some cases they will have met in other MSc Economics courses) to the identified problems. This extends to an appreciation of the policy implications of issues developed during the course and to the quality of available policy instruments.
