Summary | Using both a chronological and a thematic approach, this course will investigate the extended process of reformation at the local, regional and national levels within Scotland and examine Scottish religious beliefs and cultures as they developed between the Reformation Crisis of 1559-60 and the start of the Covenanting Revolution in 1638. |

Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to show;
- an advanced understanding of Scottish religious beliefs and practices during the Reformation period;
- an ability to analyse and assess in depth the place of the church within the kingdom of Scotland in that period;
- a critical awareness of the complex relationships between religion and society;
- an advanced level of competence in evaluating primary historical evidence in documentary and non-documentary forms;
- good skills in oral and written discussion of the material in using web-based resources;
-an ability to identify key terms and their meanings;
- good judgement about how to judge the relative importance of items on course bibliographies.
