Summary | This course is aimed at developing the student¿s transferrable skills by encouraging them to undertake a number of tasks that increase their critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. They will critically assess research seminars given by national and international Earth Scientists in the School of Geosciences. They will be read around the topic presented in the seminar and summarise one of them in a three page report.
During the Enterprise Initiative in week 6 they will be introduced to life and skills relevant to a work environment making decisions, communicating results and presenting to managers. This will also develop group working skills. |

EPS/Global Change seminars.
Week 6
Entreprise initiative during ILW (2 day activity).
Week 10
No lecture - twenty-four hour essay.

The Enterprise Initiative will contribute 33% to the final mark.
The twenty-four hour essay will contribute 33% to the final mark.
Students are required to visit eight (8) of the School seminars (either Global Change or EPS) between January 12 and April 3 2015. Once this criterion is fulfilled, the written summary of one presentation will contribute another 33%. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Ability to critically assess work in both oral and written format.
- Ability to summarise and discuss key conclusions of a variety of research topics.
- Ability to gather information from several sources, evaluate the material and present a report in written format.
