Summary	A dissertation of approximately 15,000 words will be undertaken during the summer on a topic of current interest to the financial management community. Various types of dissertation are acceptable. A dissertation may be subject review, a theoretical essay, a numerical project, a data-based project or a software project. Examples of the aims of the dissertation are: 1. To give the student the opportunity to practice and gain confidence in the use of skills which s/he has acquired in the preceding courses. 2. Provide an opportunity to study a particular topic in depth.

Learning Outcomes
After completing the dissertation the student will be able to: plan and conduct a substantial piece of research over a protracted period; identify and define a pertinent and effective research question synthesise, critically evaluate and analyse a body of literature; choose and use correctly an appropriate research methodology to approach a research problem; and structure and logically construct a report on a piece of research.
