Learning Outcomes
The objectives of this module are to introduce the student to the discipline of Fire Safety Engineering, therefore this module can act as an elective for students from other disciplines. Basic knowledge necessary to study Fire Safety Engineering will be provided. The student after this module will be ready to undertake studies in Fire Safety Engineering as well as having a clear understanding of the goals of the profession. If not pursuing Fire Safety studies, the student will be able to understand the issues faced by fire safety engineers and to interact with them in a professional context.
The learning outcomes are more specifically:
- The ability to apply analytical skills to a wide variety of problems related to Fire Safety Engineering.
- A global view of the different aspects of Fire Safety Engineering is provided in this course so that the student acquires knowledge and understanding of the fundamental scientific principles that underpin Fire Safety Engineering, and has an appreciation of the solutions that can be developed for the built environment.
- An awareness of Fire Safety Engineering practice so that the student has extensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of engineering materials and components related to Fire Safety Engineering. This outcome will mainly be achieved through case studies presented in lectures and developed in tutorials.
