Course description |
This is a detailed exegetical course based on a selected text from the Greek New Testament. Particular attention will be devoted to linguistic, historical, theological and literary matters.
Example of a possible outline for a course on Mark's Passion Narrative (Mk 14.1-16.8).
Week 1: Recent developments in Markan Studies
Week 2: Introduction to the Passion (14.1-11)
Week 3: The Last Supper (14.12-31)
Week 4: The Arrest (14.31-52)
Week 5: The Jewish Trial/Peter (14.53-72)
Week 6: Pilate (15.1-20)
Week 7: Crucifixion (15.21-39)
Week 8: Burial (15.40-47)
Week 9: The Women at the Tomb (16.1-8)
Week 10: Mark's Endings?
Week 11: Summary of Major Themes

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students will have:
1) carried out detailed exegetical study of a set passage from the Greek New Testament
2) improved their linguistic skills
3) had practice in writing a lengthy exegetical essay
4) gained a deeper understanding of part of the New Testament text.

This will consist of appropriate commentaries, linguistic tools and broader reading on the particular text. |
