Course descriptionThe course will be organised and examined as a pair with Pharmacology of New Mediators A. This course deals with drug abuse and new approaches to therapy and follows on naturally from the debate about cannabinoids in ethical drug therapy.
The final topic of the course is relatively chemical in its approach and discusses recent methods of research in discovery of new drugs. This includes Combinatorial Library Chemistry (CLC) and High Throughput Screening which are areas of endeavour of interest to pharmacologists and biochemists:

i. Mechanisms of drug dependence.
ii. Pharmacological approaches to drug addiction therapy..
iii. Combinatorial library chemistry
iv. High throughput screening

The course will consist of an introductory lecture and four discussion groups.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Pharmacology 3 (BIME09003)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Pharmacology of New Mediators A (PHBM10001)
Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Pharmacology of New Mediators (PHBM10023)
