Literature and Politics in Early-Modern Scotland (VS1) (U03432)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCL-3-LitPolVS1 To introduce students to the rich possibilities of exploring this vivid period of Scottish History through some of the major Scottish literary texts of the day and to analysing literature as historical sources from poetry to prose to political theory relating to the period 1450-1650. Entry Requirements? This course is only available to part year visiting students. ? This course is a variant of the following course : U03346 ? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first level historical course or equivalent and a pass in any second level historical course or equivalent. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing the course students should:
- Have been introduce to and engaged with a selection of important texts relating to the history of the period. - Have considered critically the use of literature as a historical source. - Have acquired insights into the major political and religious issues in Scottish History during the period 1450-1650. - Have developed skills in presentation, oral argument and essay-writing. Assessment Information
Students will be required to submit one individual essay of 3000 words and a take home exam paper. The essay will count as one third of the final grade; the exam as two thirds. The Course Organiser will keep regular consultation hours. Individual tutorials will be made available to students as required.
