East Asian Civilization 1: (VS2) (U02436)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : LLC-1-EAC East Asian Civilization 1: VS2 presents a broad outline of historical change in Japan and, to a lesser degree, other parts of East Asia. Students will be introduced to the most important characteristics of traditional society and intellectual life, including the literature and art of East Asia. The course provides an insight into cultures that in many respects differ fundamentally from Western civilization and aims to give a better understanding of the social and cultural origins of the nations of East Asia. The course aims:
To provide a survey of pre-modern East Asian history and culture for students with little or no previous knowledge of the subject To develop student's skills in gathering information from appropriate sources, considering the material analytically, and reporting and presenting a view on their findings orally and in essay form Assessment Information
