Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The student should be able to:
- understand different pedagogical practices; - analyse curricular structure and change, and purposes and forms of assessment; - understand current equality and values debates, relationship between social divisions and achievement, inclusion; - [for ITE students] undertake course and lesson planning, including assessment; - use literature, observation and theory to reflect on/justify/ critique practice. A single assessment, based on three tasks (equally weighted): 1) Presentation on an issue in Teaching (group assessment)
2) Personal selection from responses to open-learning study guide on Curriculum and Assessment 3) Narrative response to Social Justice case study (e.g. showing possible outcomes) and theoretical analysis of the situation. As a course requirement, students will be expected to maintain a reflective commentary on their reading and observations. (In extreme cases, to resolve a problem in group assessment, this, a short viva, or some writing under supervision may be used as supplementary evidence in reaching a final grade). Students will be required to gain a final (aggregate) mark of at least 40% to pass the course, in accordance with the common marking scheme.
