Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to: Understand, transcribe, and extract information from aural media texts in Modern Standard Arabic on a variety of topics. Translate written media texts, such as news reports and opinion pieces, from Arabic into English and vice versa. Understand and summarise complex media and literary texts in Modern Standard Arabic. Write essays, reports, and opinion pieces in Modern Standard Arabic on a wide variety of topics, from politics and current affairs to culture, social issues, history, and the environment, with appropriate use of high-register grammatical structures such as al-maf'uul al-muTlaq, al-istithnaa', al-Haal, etc.
