Summary	All SINGLE HONS STUDENTS STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED to return 40 UoE credits of assessed work to DELC as specified below: ERASMUS STUDENTS studying abroad for 2 semesters are required to return a minimum of 30 ECTS (two semesters' worth) for suitable courses at a partner university abroad. Marks for the best 30 ECTS (= 40 UoE credits) will count as two Units of Assessment in the Final Year. NON-ERASMUS STUDENTS and students who are working abroad for the whole year are required to submit two Year Abroad Projects - an essay and a video (40 UoE credits). ERASMUS STUDENTS studying abroad for 1 semester and who are also studying abroad as non-Erasmus students or working abroad for the remainder of the time are required to return a minimum of 15 ECTS (one semester's worth) for suitable courses at the Erasmus partner university abroad. Marks for the best 15 ECTS (= 20 UoE credits) will count. These students will also submit ONE Year Abroad Project.
Course description	Students enrolled on this course are Single Honours students. The nature of the Year Abroad "Work" for this course will vary according to the student's YA program: - Students studying for the whole year at a partner university on an Erasmus-like exchange will return 30 ECTS credits for this course (and nothing else - in particular no YA Projects). - Single Honours students who are working abroad or undertaking independent study (ie studying at a language school or NOT at a partner university on an Erasmus-like exchange) for one or both semesters are required to complete ONE or TWO Year Abroad Projects (essay + video). Students sill return: - ONE YA Project if they are working (or equivalent/NOT returning ECTS credits) for ONE semester and returning ECTS credits for the other semester; - TWO YA Projects if they are working (or equivalent/NOT returning ECTS credits) for TWO semesters.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to: Students will have improved their oral comprehension by developing reception strategies, using contextual, grammatical and lexical cues. Students will be able to assess and discuss aspects of cultural values and practices. They will be able to evaluate ambiguity in cross-cultural communication and express their reactions constructively and culturally appropriately in order to bring clarity. Students will be able to follow extended discourse on topics beyond their own field, and to recognise a wide range of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms, appreciating register shifts. Students will be able to follow discussions and complex interactions between third parties in group discussions. Students will be able to present a clear and well-structured argument orally, and to respond to questions or requests to expand on specific points. They will also be able to present an argument in writing, using complex language structures.
