| Summary | This course introduces the key aspects of architectural practice including the architect/client relationship, role of professional bodies, current legislation and methods of procurement.
The aims of this course are as follows:
1. Develop an awareness of professionalism and context for practice;
2. Develop an awareness of forms of practice and how a small business operates;
3. Develop an awareness of the client/architect relationship;
4. Introduce students to methods of building procurement.

Learning outcomes are assessed through a written assignment. Students on the BA Architecture Programme are permitted a maximum of two assessment attempts to pass this course. |

In this course students will undertake six short essays during the Second Semester. However, in advance of submitting their final assignment, students will be given the option to submit a Draft (word count to be between 50-250 words) outlining their response to one specific essay question.
Students are required to reflect upon their feedback and submit a short paragraph along with a list of intended action points (word count to be between 50-250 words). |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of business management and knowledge of the legal and statutory frameworks within which architectural design is practiced and delivered.
- Develop an understanding of the role of the client, architect and related professions in the costing, procurement and realisation of architectural design projects.
- Develop an understanding of the role of the architect in society, including knowledge of professionalism and emerging trends in the construction industry.
