| -To further develop some essential  language skills in reading, listening comprehension, writing and speaking Russian. -To further develop translation skills and further encourage grammatical and syntactical accuracy as well as a higher degree of spoken Russian -- than in Russian 2.
 -To provide an opportunity for independent study and to promote the effective use of reference resources and authentic language materials.
