| Summary | Students will be introduced to the study of advanced Sanskrit texts in the areas of classical South Asian philosophy and religion.  The texts will be chosen from a Hindu, Buddhist or Jain background and will involve themes such as karma and the arguments for a creator god.  The course will involve both the translation and analysis of the texts selected for study and investigation of the various scholarly issues relating to them. |

        develop their familiarity with Sanskrit language and literature and build upon their previous knowledge of the culture of ancient India.translate and analyse a range of advanced Sanskrit texts from a variety of periods composed in several genres.develop skills in acquiring knowledge of a linguistic and literary culture which they will be able to transfer to study of other languages and literatures.communicate their understanding of the linguistic and textual culture of ancient India.develop skills based on their independent work and interact with class colleagues in communal study of the Sanskrit language and its literature. |
