| Summary | This course explores key topics in literature and film and extends the knowledge of Spanish and Spanish American culture gained in Spanish 1A and 1B. | 
 
| Course description | 
    
    Students will study a diverse range of literary texts and films from Spain and Spanish America. The corpus, selected to enhance students' understanding of different genres and artistic currents, addresses the important role of culture in reflecting, shaping and contesting reality from the sixteenth century to the present day. A one-hour weekly lecture will be followed by a one-hour seminar. Seminar activities will include group discussion, debate, and close analysis. Each student will also deliver one presentation to their seminar group during the year, write a commentary and an essay, and undertake a final written exam.

Learning Outcomes 
    On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
    
        - Demonstrate a knowledge of a range of literary and filmic texts from some of the countries of the Spanish-speaking world.
 - Demonstrate the ability to employ techniques of cultural analysis and theoretical approaches to literature and film.
 - Employ academic research skills to topics in Hispanism.
 - Clearly express detailed ideas on cultural topics in Spanish, both in written and spoken formats.
