| Summary | This course runs for 2 hours per week throughout the year. Classes are seminars of written and spoken language classes with native speakers.  Points of grammar will be covered on a weekly basis and these will be reinforced in small group spoken and written language classes with the intention of consolidating the student's proficiency in the 4 core skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. 
If you are a first year joint hons student studying two languages you may not take this course. It is available to second year joint hons language students. |

Learning Outcomes 
    On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
    
        - To read and understand different typologies of written and oral texts dealing with social and culltural matters with a particular emphasis on the Catalan speaking territories.
 - To engage on basic conversation on everyday situations, articulate simple opinions and deliver short oral presentations on topics related to Catalan culture.
 - To write short personal letters, descriptions and basic opinions on current affairs as well as simple critical reviews on media material.
 - To familiarise oneself with cultural communities and societies where Catalan is used and identify sociocultural similarities and differences.
 - To develop critical skills by means of using reliable language resources and authentic material to become an effective language learner.
