| Summary | An integrated introduction to elementary Japanese language skills for graduates with little or no previous knowledge of Japanese. The course covers all four language-skill areas - speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and their proficiency level will gradually progress from basic practice to communicative activities. A good deal of private study is necessary to meet the requirements of the course. |

Learning Outcomes 
|     Students will acquire (1) spoken and listening skills to carry out simple everyday conversation, (2) reading skills to understand short, simple printed-materials, and (3) writing skills, including handwriting and Japanese keyboarding, to be able to write short compositions using appropriate kana writing (the Japanese phonetic writing) and about 60 kanji (Chinese characters).
