| Summary | This course offers students a supervised opportunity to develop and design their own independent research proposal. Managing such a process is essential training for students wishing to proceed to advanced postgraduate research (PhD), or to acquire research management skills applicable to non-academic settings (eg public and commercial applications). The course culminates in the submission of a written research proposal.

The course aims to provide a supported research environment in which students can:
- establish their research question/s
- justify the relevance of their proposed research in relation to existing research and theoretical debates
- decide upon theoretically and empirically appropriate methodologies and techniques
- scope and detail the resource implications of the proposed research
- plan timing in terms of preparatory work, field or archive work, and writing up.
- experience different modes of presenting research.
