| Summary | Indicative course content
Paleoecology and the botany of the past 450million years. The development of the modern floristic kingdoms ¿ climate change, mountain building, the shifting seas and the influence of plate tectonics on the evolution of plants and their habitats. The ecological structure of the major biota and modern floristic kingdoms and the impact that each has had on horticulture: Arctic and Temperate biota Mediterranean (Chile, South Africa and Australia)The Tropics.
Aims of course
1 This module introduces students to some of the complexities and patterns of plant evolution.

Students must pass all learning outcomes. The aggregation of failed Learning outcomes with passing learning outcomes to generate an overall pass mark is not permitted. - demonstrate an understanding of the major floristic categories.
- demonstrate an understanding of the way plants adapt to changing environments and the formation of habitats.
- understand how changing climates and the interplay between abiotic and biotic factors have influenced the evolution of major plant groups.
