| Summary | Aims:
. Promote understanding in the principles of patient assessment and selection.
. Provide the theoretical background and practical skills necessary for surgical practice in dental implantology.
Objectives:
At the end of this module students should be able to:
. Take a relevant history from a patient and conduct an oral and maxillofacial examination.
. Be aware of the relevance of the patient¿s general condition to patient management and predicted outcomes.
. Demonstrate an ability to assess a patient¿s suitability for dental implants.
. Demonstrate knowledge of surgical complications and failures and management of these.
. Be aware of different techniques for guided bone regeneration and their outcomes.
. Understand the healing processes involved in tissue repair and healing.
. Demonstrate and discuss flap designs for implant surgery.
. Demonstrate knowledge of soft tissue grafting and management.
. To introduce students to the range of imaging techniques available for assessment and treatment planning for dental implants

1. Surgical planning
2. Introduction to Radiology
3. CT Scans
4. Surgical complications
5. Bone grafting (onlay and inlay techniques)
6. Guided bone regeneration
7. Bone substitutes and bone growth factors
8. Soft tissue surgery and aesthetics
9. Advanced implant techniques zygomatic implants
10. Craniofacial reconstruction with implants
11. Immediate replacement
12. Sinus lifts
13. Oral health & medicine
