Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to: Understand the biological characteristics of the different classes of pathogens. Demonstrate an appreciation of the various strategies adopted by specific (regional) pathogens to establish infection and survive in their hosts. Understand the innate and adaptive immunity, the induction of an immune response and the role of cells involved in this process. Develop an understanding of the immune effector function and control of a range of infectious agents, including intra- and extra- cellular bacterial, viral pathogens, protozoa and worms.
