| Summary | Readings in modern Chinese history and thought, e.g. Mao Zedong etc.; the Chinese cinema and other media as an expression of Chinese thought since the twentieth century. Training in use of original language primary sources.
All students will be given a formative feedback exercise that will be helpful for the assessment for this course and students¿ general ongoing academic development. |

Topics covered can include:
- Mao's "On New Democracy"
- The Cultural Revolution
- Zhao Ziyang's "Prisoner of the State"
What to expect from the course:
Introduction to and discussion of different topics which focus on key developments in modern Chinese history and thought. Training in reading academic and non-literary modern Chinese, discussion of analysis of key texts, and training in critical analytical thinking.
What is expected from you:
To prepare the requested reading and contribute to discussions in class. Prepare and present when required.
