| Summary | A continuation of Japanese 1. Teaching will be aimed at enabling students to speak, read and write Modern Japanese at an upper-elementary / intermediate level. 
 
This course is not available to native or near-native speakers of Japanese, or complete beginners. If in doubt, contact the Course Organiser. 
 
First meeting: Week 1, Monday (16th September), 11:10 - 12:00, @ David Hume Tower 4.01. Placement test and questionnaire for your background of Japanese language studies will be conducted in the first class.  
 
All students will be given a formative feedback exercise that will be helpful for the assessment for this course and students' general academic development. |

Learning Outcomes 
    On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
    
        - Aimed overall proficiency level is Intermediate (low).
 - Speaking: able to handle a variety of straightforward communicative tasks in daily social situations.
 - Listening: able to understand sentence-length utterances in both formal/informal contexts.
 - Reading: With about 300-500 kanji characters in total, students will be able to read semi-authentic Japanese text.
 - Writing: able to write a short text in Japanese such as personal letters/essays, and short descriptions. Students will be able to control more complicated syntax towards the end of the course.
