| Course description | Students will spend the final block of the second semester on original research either in the library or, in a limited number of cases, in individual research laboratories. The results of the research will be formally presented to the whole class and teachers, and also written up as a Dissertation which is independently marked by at least two members of the Board of Examiners. Library project students have a relatively free choice of topic subject to approval by the Board of Examiners, but guidance on a choice of topic will be given to those who require it. The choice of laboratory-based projects will be limited and admission is competitive. Acceptance onto a laboratory-based project may depend on a student's academic record and on consideration of evidence of future plans for a career in laboratory-based science or medicine. However, both library-based and laboratory-based projects are considered of equal value: both provide ample opportunities for students to demonstrate their creative, critical and analytical skills. |
