| Course description | This elective course will examine the host immune response to virus infection, virus evasion of this response and the pathogenic consequences.  Topics covered will include 
?	Overview of the innate immune response to virus infection. 
?	The role of the adaptive immune system in control of virus infections 
?	Virus strategies to avoid/suppress the immune response 
?	Acute virus infections (e.g. virus encephalitis, respiratory infections including influenza, gastrointestinal virus infections) 
?	Chronic virus infections (e.g. CMV, VZV, HSV, HCV, HIV) 
?	Host genetics and susceptibility to virus infection 
?	Control of virus infection (e.g. vaccines)
