| Course description | 
    
    This course will provide useful information and advice to new students to help them settle into their new environment, to minimise the non-academic disruptions and to enhance their quality of life in Edinburgh. The course will also help new students to understand the learning styles in Edinburgh in order to maximise their learning outcomes and prepare them to be more employable after graduating.  
 
Students will be given information and advice on how to develop effective techniques for writing essays/other assignments, contribute effectively to group work, develop presentation skills and undertake other types of activity at University level.

Student Learning Experience 
 
The course topics are designed to link more closely with the course assignments for the core Foundations of Business course but also to include techniques that are relevant to other courses such as Accounting and Economics, which are taken by many Business School students in first year. Sessions have been designed to focus on student activities with the aim of encouraging active learning, and incorporate the Peer Assisted Learning (BizPals) scheme.  2nd, 3rd and 4th year Business student leaders  (BizPals)  share their own experiences on issues such as study skills, using library resources, essay writing etc and can also help you find  where to get additional help and information.
