| Course description | An introduction to the Scottish Gaelic language and the history and culture of Gaelic Scotland. Teaching consists of three one-hour language workshops per week, one one-hour lecture, and a biweekly tutorial. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
| Introduction to Gaelic Language and Culture aims to give students with no previous knowledge of Scottish Gaelic a general introduction to the language and a general overview of the history and culture of Gaelic Scotland. By the end of the course, students may expect to have gained a basic competence in spoken and written Scottish Gaelic and to have acquired a general understanding of the history and culture of Gaelic Scotland. | 
 
 
Assessment Information 
Weekly language exercises and other written assignments; 
Final exam (end of semester) 40%; 2 class tests through the semester 25%; 1 essay 25%; oral testing (end of semester) 10%. |
